South Bay and Long Beach neighborhoods
Beach cities, harbor towns and ocean-view hills, each one its own city.

The South Bay is the run of beach cities south of LAX: Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach and Redondo Beach, plus El Segundo, Torrance, the Palos Verdes Peninsula and, further down the coast, Long Beach. Nearly every one is its own city, with its own rules and services.
Homes range from beach cottages and tall rebuilds on small lots near the sand to 1950s ranch houses, ocean-view homes on the Peninsula, and Craftsman and Spanish bungalows in Long Beach. The breeze off the water keeps summers mild, and LAX is close by.

A small city with a classic Main Street, bungalows and ranch houses on a tidy grid, and the beach a short drive west.

A small beach city of compact lots and beach cottages, volleyball nets on the sand, and a lively plaza running down to the pier.

Canal homes in Naples, Craftsman and Spanish bungalows in Belmont Shore, and a working waterfront city on the bay.

Wide sand, a pier with a little round aquarium at the end, and rebuilt beach houses climbing the hill for the view.

A 1920s Olmsted-planned hillside of Mediterranean homes, ocean bluffs and coves at the north end of the Palos Verdes Peninsula.

Terraced hillside homes, open-space preserves and miles of coastline facing Catalina.

A working harbor, a horseshoe pier, bluff-top views and a village of shops at the foot of the Palos Verdes hills.

Ranch homes, a planned 1910s downtown, and a beach at the foot of the Palos Verdes bluffs.
