Zip code 90277, Mar 2026 to May 2026, from the Redfin Data Center. Redondo spans 90277 (South Redondo, near the beach) and 90278 (North Redondo); figures are 90277. Zip codes don't line up neatly with neighborhood borders, and medians hide a wide range of homes, so treat these as a rough feel for the area.
Redondo started out in the 1890s as a working port with wharves, and in 1907 Henry Huntington, whose Pacific Electric line ran to his Hotel Redondo, hired Hawaiian surfer George Freeth to ride waves for the crowds, a show often called the start of surfing on the mainland. After winter storms and a 1988 fire wrecked the old Horseshoe Pier, the city reopened a rebuilt concrete pier in 1995. A statue of Freeth stands at the pier, which is still the center of Redondo's waterfront.
The homes
Redondo Beach is its own city with two distinct halves. South Redondo, in 90277, runs from the harbor down to the Palos Verdes border. Near the water you'll find beachfront and ocean-view condos, many from the 1960s through the 1980s, plus townhomes and single-family homes on the streets climbing up from the Esplanade. Around Riviera Village and toward the Hollywood Riviera area, which straddles the line with Torrance, homes range from older cottages and ranch houses to large new builds, some with views of the bay.
North Redondo, in 90278, sits inland. It has a lot of newer townhomes and small-lot detached homes, often built where single houses once stood, along with ranch houses and condos. It tends to offer more space per dollar than the beach side of town.
The feel
- King Harbor and the pier, with marinas, sportfishing boats, fish markets, restaurants and Seaside Lagoon.
- Riviera Village, a cluster of blocks near the south end of town with restaurants, boutiques, coffee shops and salons.
- The Esplanade, a bluff-top street above the beach in South Redondo with long views along the coast.
- The Strand path, the beach bike path that continues south from the pier toward Torrance Beach and north through Hermosa and Manhattan.
Eat, drink, shop
- Sushi Chitose (Pacific Coast Hwy). An easy-to-miss building hiding an affordable sushi omakase. The Infatuation
- Jus' Poke (Pacific Coast Hwy). Hawaiian-style poke with several kinds of tuna and good toppings. The Infatuation
- Quality Seafood (International Boardwalk). A two-story pier institution where you pick live crab, lobster or fish from the tanks and have it cooked to order. The Infatuation
- The Boy & The Bear (Pacific Coast Hwy). A coffee shop pouring Colombian coffee in a room styled like a modern surf lodge. The Infatuation
- Bread, Espresso & (Pacific Coast Hwy). A Japanese bakery-cafe known for cube-shaped milk bread, best when warm. The Infatuation
Getting around
Pacific Coast Highway runs the length of the city, and the 405 is a short drive from North Redondo. The Metro K Line ends at the Redondo Beach (Marine) station in North Redondo, with trains toward the airport area and Expo/Crenshaw. LAX is often 15 to 25 minutes away outside rush hour, and the Westside is often 35 to 50. South Redondo sits farther from the freeway, so test any regular commute at the hours you'll drive it.
What's new
- Rail extension to Torrance. Metro is planning a roughly 4.5 mile extension from the Redondo Beach (Marine) station to Torrance, with a new station in Redondo, operating as part of the K Line. The Metro board approved the project in January 2026, and Metro currently lists completion for late 2036, depending on funding. Metro

- LAX/Metro Transit Center opened in June 2025, making the K Line a continuous ride from Redondo to the airport area. The people mover to the terminals is delayed, with the latest reported target of January 2027. Source
Good to know
- Its own city. Redondo Beach is incorporated, so permits, building rules, zoning and city-specific rules go through the City of Redondo Beach, not the City of LA. Verify before planning an addition or rebuild.
- Two zip codes, two markets. Prices and housing types differ a lot between 90277 and 90278, so compare homes within the same side of town.
- Condo homework. Many beachfront and harbor-area condos are in older buildings. Review HOA budgets, reserves, special assessments and any planned repairs before you commit.
- Coastal Zone. Homes near the water may sit in the California Coastal Zone, which can add review time for projects.
