Zip code 90254, Mar 2026 to May 2026, from the Redfin Data Center. 90254 covers Hermosa Beach. Zip codes don't line up neatly with neighborhood borders, and medians hide a wide range of homes, so treat these as a rough feel for the area.
Jazz came to this Pier Avenue bar on May 29, 1949, when bassist Howard Rumsey talked owner John Levine into trying a Sunday session. Those Sundays grew into the Lighthouse All-Stars, the house band that made the club a center of West Coast jazz through the 1950s. It still books live music a few doors up from Pier Plaza and the sand, and it is the closest thing Hermosa has to a town memory.
The homes
Hermosa Beach is a small city, about 1.4 square miles, so lots are compact and homes sit close together. Near the sand you'll find older beach cottages next to newer two and three story homes with roof decks, plus plenty of townhomes and duplex-style condos, often two units sharing a lot. Strand homes face the beach path directly and are the most sought-after addresses in town.
Moving east, the land rises. The hillside streets toward the eastern edge of the city hold view homes that look back over the rooftops to the ocean, with a mix of mid-century houses and modern rebuilds. Garages on alleys, shared driveways and tandem parking are common throughout.
The feel
- Pier Plaza and the pier, the car-free block of restaurants, bars and patios that runs onto the Hermosa Pier.
- The Strand, the beach path that runs the length of town, connecting north to Manhattan Beach and south toward Redondo.
- The Greenbelt, a long, narrow park on the old railroad right-of-way between Valley Drive and Ardmore Avenue, with a soft dirt path shaded by trees.
- Volleyball on the sand. Hermosa's beach is lined with volleyball courts, and the town has a long history with the sport.
Eat, drink, shop
- Vin Folk (Hermosa Ave). A cozy wine bistro with inventive small plates and a standout roast chicken, a Michelin Bib Gourmand pick. The Infatuation
- Ryla (Hermosa Ave). A dark, moody room serving Japanese-Taiwanese dishes and cocktails. The Infatuation
- Barsha (Aviation Blvd). A wine bar with North African-leaning small plates and shareable mains. The Infatuation
- Redwood Pie (Pier Ave). A no-frills pizzeria for thin, chewy sourdough pies, including a Jersey-style tomato pie. The Infatuation
- Coni'Seafood (Hermosa Ave). Mexican mariscos a block from the sand, with ceviche, cheesy shrimp tacos and whole grilled snook. The Infatuation
Getting around
Pacific Coast Highway runs through the middle of town, and Aviation Boulevard and the 405 are a short drive east. LAX is often 15 to 25 minutes away outside rush hour, and the Westside is often 30 to 45. The nearest rail is the Metro K Line, a short drive inland. Bikes and beach cruisers do a lot of the local errands here, and parking near the pier is tight on weekends.
What's new
- The Hermosa Pier's future. An engineering assessment rated the pier in poor condition, and the city is planning structural repairs and weighing a longer-term replacement, with a council decision expected by the end of 2026. Source
- LAX/Metro Transit Center opened in June 2025, completing a continuous K Line route from the South Bay to the airport area. Source
- LAX Automated People Mover, linking that station to the terminals, has been delayed several times, with the latest reported target of January 2027. Source
Good to know
- Its own city. Hermosa Beach is incorporated, so permits, building rules, zoning and city-specific rules go through the City of Hermosa Beach, not the City of LA. Verify height limits and parking requirements before planning a remodel.
- Coastal Zone. The whole city is close to the water, and much of it sits in the California Coastal Zone, which can add review time for projects.
- Condo and shared-lot homework. For duplex-style condos and townhomes, review HOA documents, budgets, reserves and any shared-wall or shared-driveway arrangements.
- Noise and activity. Homes near Pier Plaza and the Strand trade some evening noise and weekend activity for being close to the action. Visit at night and on a Saturday.
